Raja Ravi Varma

Raja Ravi Varma was born in 1848 in Travancore, Kerala. At the age of 7, Ravi Varma started to draw on the walls of the Kilimanoor Palace. His parents soon realised Ravi Varma’s talent and asked the palace painter to teach him the basics of watercolour painting. Ravi Varma also got some training in oil painting from the Dutch artist, Theodor Jenson. Today, Raja Ravi Varma paintings are nothing short of a national treasure to us Indians.
