About this Painting – In this painting, Ravi Varma portrays a real life incident happened in 1880. It was the occasion where The Maharaja of Travancore and his younger brother welcomed Richard Temple Grenville, then Governor-General of Madras on his official visit to Trivandrum.  Ravi Varma depicts the King and Governor shaking hands up on arrival, while the members of staff are standing around witnessing this important event. It’s a very detailed painting – you could see detailed coconut leaves and faces of staff members on a closer look.
